morning

When I swam at 8, a boat on the far side of the lake made waves. On my back, under the clear sky, I was rocked back and forth in the bowl of water. What matters. Light coming through cedar branches, crow prints in the sand, and coming home to water the greenhouse before the heat of the day. Looking out, I saw them just beyond where I stood with my hand on the tap. What matters. Everything that has kept me awake in the night is stardust now, the tiny feather by the sunroom door.
