Interesting you quote Elizabeth Hay, just as I have read a positive review of her book by Michael Peterman in the Peterborough Examiner. I have always found the Lanark area especially culturally interesting, partly as a contrast to nearby hi-tec Kanata. So obviously I will read the book.
John, I loved the book. I don’t know that area in particular, though we often drive out to swim in the Madawaska River when we visit our son and family in Ottawa, stopping for ice-cream at Almonte (or somewhere just as nice) coming back. I love the rock, the lakes, rivers, the old farms, so I suspect I am a perfect reader for Liz’s novel. (I wrote to tell her how much I love it and had a sweet note back.) Let me know what you think of Snow Road Station!
Beautiful alignment. Like your first commenter, I’m always jotting down such passages, often with the intention of sharing. I’ve got Hay’s previous book “saved up” too; at one point, I was too uptodate with her, and had to wait for what-felt-like ages.
I’d forgotten she had a new novel until I saw it at the library, facing out. It was a book I just wanted to read until I’d finished, dishes piled up, laundry in baskets. And it was worth it.
