We are expecting friends to drive up any minute now for dinner and overnight (two nights!) so I just went out for salad greens. I was glad to be able to pick enough of Mendel’s peas to have with guacamole and hummus and a glass of wine when they arrive. And when I photographed the dish of peas, I was surprised to see a sapsucker in the background! There should be something wise or profound to say at this point about eyes and heredity and genetic prediction but I’m sorry. All I can say is that the peas are delicious and the sapsuckers more beautiful each day.
